231st U.S. Constitution Day Celebration 2:00pm

Speaker:   Honorable D. Melissa Moore Stens Flagler County Judge, Seventh Judicial Circuit

Topic:         Misconceptions of the 4th Amendment: Search and Seizure

At a Constitutional Convention held in Philadelphia on September 17, 1787, 231 years ago, the U. S. Constitution was signed.  Later, 12 amendments to the Constitution were approved on September 25, 1789 and sent to the states for ratification.  Ten of the amendments, now known as the Bill of Rights, were ratified by the states on December 15, 1791 and became part of the Constitution.  The 4th Amendment dealt with Search and Seizure:

“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”

This event is sponsored by the Flagler County Friends of the Library and Flagler Chapter Sons of the American Revolution.  Copies of the U.S. Constitution will be distributed.  Light refreshments will be served.
