March 2nd - FLAGLER READS TOGETHER - Remembering World War I

Flagler Reads Together: A study of World War I writings and history.

Selection: The Alice Network by Kate Quinn

Medium3/02 Friday 2pm Kickoff featuring Joe Knetsch, a Florida Historian with extensive knowledge about WWI. The title of his presentation is: "Intelligence in the Great War: Spying and Other Arts during the Global Conflict." (Meeting Room)

3/10 Saturday 2pm Discussion and presentation by Gary Mormino regarding the Facts and History of St. Augustine during the Great War. (DCR)

3/16 Friday 12:00 - 4:00pm Warren Chard will display and talk about his exhibit of World War I artifacts. The public is welcome to attend anytime between the identified hours. (DCR)

3/21 Wednesday 10:00 - 1:00pm Holden House Museum Open House.

This year is also the centennial anniversary- of the Holden House Museum in Bunnell. Located at: 204 East Moody Blvd in Bunnell, Fl. (386-437-0600).
Flagler County Historical representatives will be on hand to tell local history, stories and answer questions. (Bunnell)

3/23 Friday 2pm Nancy Duke-Burkhead, Professor at Daytona Beach College will discuss: "Roles of Women during WWI". (DCR)

3/28 Wednesday 3:30pm Flagler Book Club. Book discussion focusing on the FRT book selection. This book club is open to the public. (Meeting Room)

3/31 Saturday 2pm Finale Event featuring Tom Schmidt, a history professor at Florida State College in Jacksonville. He and his wife recently toured two battlefields of WWI in France, Somme and Verdun. He has taken son^e beautiful and touching pictures of the battlefields and will be presenting them along with some background history of the area and battles. (DCR)

FLAGLER COUNTY HISTORY = Flagler History as compiled by members of the Flagler County Historical Society and Friends of the Library.  Here is our Flagler Memories project offering video, text and voice interviews of early residents.  The Flagler County History web page contains papers, video, and interviews conducted by Friends of the Library members over the years and is an interesting store of knowledge.
